Operation Zenith 2016?

Post by Myxomatosis »

Anyone else been pulled over on the pretext of 'Operation Zenith' this year?

I was heading up the A90 from Garthdee as I hit the A90 I noticed a parked police car on South Deeside Road, thought nothing on it. When I get to the old petrol garage outside Portlethen I notice that this police car has chased me down. Didn't stop me for a while but was following me then eventually put his lights on and pulled me over.

They then proceeded to tell me it was to check my license and let me know about 'the dangers of riding a motorcycle' as part of Operation Zenith.

I'm not against these checks but I didn't think it was worth flying down the dualler after me (which must of been at some speed) just to check I'm safe when I hadn't actually done anything to even attract their attention other than riding a motorcycle at the speed limit.

Not been pulled for a 'chat' this year, but this pish has been going on for years.

Forced the old Hungry Highlander out of business by camping at the place and driving custom away.

I have never been stopped as part of Operation Zenith or any other general chat with the coppers.

Unfortunately the only time I have been stopped there has been a more focused conversation on their part :???

Stopping people that haven't committed an offence is IMO a total waste of time and pisses people off.

They can run your plates and find out everything they need to about the bike and it's owner.

I think people want to see action being taken on the hoodlums stealing and using bikes illegally.

To be fair, the original idea was about engaging with the biking community to try and enhance education.

However it has evolved into focused stop checks for bikers to make them 'aware' that they are being watched and there is a high local police focus on bikers. Thus encouraging them to go elsewhere.

Perhaps it's time for a different approach ;)

This is exactly it Zathos - how is the police checking my license and just saying something about operation Zenith engaging with the biking community. All I see on Operation Zenith is a bunch of stats about speeding riders.

Just makes me feel like they were stopping me for no reason and using that as an excuse. Looking back at it they seemed very aware of my helmet camera, wonder what they would of tried to pin on me if I didn't have that :roll

As I understand it the Police need a reason to stop a vehicle/motorcycle. If you're entirely legal and riding within the law (or have seen the police before they spotted you), then they need some other reason to pull you over...

From history they usually go with the 'small plate' or 'loud exhaust' as a reason for the stop.

Once checked and chatted to 'on yer way lad'

To be fair, there is a medium percentage of bikes which would fail on one of those two items ;)

Aside from the crash bungs my ER6 is completely standard :D

I was under the impression that they needed a reason as well.

Reason would be 'we think your exhaust sounds too loud' ;)
