First time on track

Hi all you budding track day nuts and nutesses.

I`m going to take the gixxer thou to Rockingham this year (already booked).

Question is, do you track day types use insurance or wing it with race fairings etc.

Can anybody point the way to getting a quote for track insurance?

All advice appreciated (apart from "get a nose job" ;) )

Track insurance doesn't cover fairings I'm lead to believe,as for track fairings, depends on how many you intend on doing to make it worth while buying them ??

Good luck :2up

If you're really worried about dropping it then you could look into hiring a bike. Focused do a package where you can hire an YZFR6 and do the trackday for £225 inclusive. Obviously there's an excess payable if you damage it, but still cheaper than damaging your road bike.

Never looked into trackday insurance, I'm sure I've read about it before though. You could help limit any damage by removing mirrors, etc. That's good practice anyway.

Enjoy and prepare to be hooked.

I bought a set of race fairings for the YZFR6 after I did my first trackday as I thought that it was a good "investment" given the cost of a new set of lights, top fairing or any plastic for a bike.

I got the whole lot for less than the price of a side fairing panel.

Keep looking on ebay to see what is available. You might pick up a set cheaply

You can get insurance to cover your bike from here...
http://www.pitandpaddock.com/faqs.htm

Personally I dont bother as it would cost me a fortune over the year ! You should just get yourself a set of race fairings, you can pick them up for around £240.

As your doing the CSS you wont actually be going that fast... they get you to go slow so you learn more etc from what i've heard !

You can till crash going slowly though :oops.

From experience when I dropped my Gixxer it cost me close to £400 to fix so I bought a fully set of race fairng + seat for the 675 @ £170 when I tracked it. Its a bit of an investment but you will always sell them on as its a fairly common bike.

Hi metalninja, which date are you doing your CSS in july? I will be there both days doing my levels 2 and 3! Rockingham national circuit is a cool little track, good for learning and working on your technique!
As for trackday insurance, I have never bothered getting it, but esure give discounts if you have done the CSS so maybe they would cover you while doing it too!
I dont have a van or a trailer so I ride my bike to most of the trackdays I do, spanish trackdays I hire a bike, and am doing the 225 pound focused events deal at the end off the month, if it goes well I will do more of them!

Oh yeah and as for not going fast at CSS, well they do tell you to ride at about 85% of your ability to let you concentrate on the drills you are learning but for me on my level 1, by the last session of the day 85% of my ability was without a doubt the fastest I have ever went!
