Bleeding problem

Post by kirahan »

Hi,

I have just put my front calipers back on an old xj600 bike after having sticky pistons. I have replaced all washers and bolts.

Here's the problem - I have filled up the master cylinder with the new fluid but it will not move out when i pull the leaver. I saw a few a bubbles when I first started but then nothing. Hence I cant bleed it from the caliper.

Could it be a faulty master cylinder?

Cheers for any advise

Update...

The lever seems to have pressure but no output? At most i have seen 15 bubbles in my bleed bottle but no sign of fluid.
Also the leaver does not release pressure when i loosen the bleed nipple.
I can only think that there is some kind of blockage in the master cylinder

It can just be an airlock in the system.

1 way round that is "reverse bleeding " ie filling the system from the caliper uo to the cylinder. This purges out all the air upwards instead of down and out the caliper.

Not sure about the XL but when we put supermoto wheels on my mates XR we also changed the calipers we then had to take the caliper off and hold it so that the bleed nipple was the highest point in the system

To keep the subject going (sort of)
I got the fluid down to the Nipple by sucking on them both, always a good thing to do :P (via a long bit of clear tube)

The handle is still soft but I am getting lots of small bubbles by gently squeezing the handle, hopefully it will build up preasure.
