brakes squealing and no stopping power

Post by lawzer »

now, don't laugh :oops but this is on my push bike.
the rear hydraulic brake just squeals and even with the brake lever held in i can push the wheel by hand.
the pads are good, probably destryed the ozone with the amount of brake cleaner i've sprayed on....
i've had the disc off and it's true.
afore i go trying to find a VERY small tube to try and bleed it, any other suggestions??

Have you got the pads fitted round the right way?

Are you pulling the lever for the front brake by mistake? :log :log

Are these pads you have just fitted, or is this a problem which has developed recently?

Well I finally bled the calliper and even though there was a lot of air bubbles came out its still nae workin.

Took the calliper off and pumped the brake lever and both pistons are working.

I'm at a loss as to what to try next..."... :(

Pads Glazed :confused Give them a rough up with some emery / sand paper as they may not have enough grip to the rim if they have gone shiney. Are they binding in the caliper which is stopping them from making full contact ?.

They seem to move freely enough. I will rough up the pads and the disc and see fit happens.
There are 2bolts which mount the calliper vertically to the frame. There's a tiny bit of adjustment in those but even with those ever so slightly loose to allow the calliper to find its proper place the same happens.
Could be the capper itself I spouse........

Set about the pads and disc with some sandpaper. Jeezus! Talk about glass like. I can't believe they were that glazed for such little use. Mind you it's sat in the shed for months.

Anyway cheers for the help folks :2up
