The latest bike thefts have got me thinking about reviewing my current home security for me bikes.

Was thinking of a ground anchor such as one of these:

Was thinking about getting a garage door lock too such as below but I don't really want to advertise the fact that I have something cherished inside!!

anyone got any advice?

security is pretty much in the same debate as riding gear

buy what you can afford and as much as you feel you need as you can never have 2 much however if the little cnuts want your stuff they will get it, sad though that is to say

ground anchors can be gotten round albeit with some noise, door lock as you say advertises that somethings worth poking at then your weak point is the door itself

some signs saying live shotgun other side of door activated on breaking in might work, or of course the old fav from another thread the landmines

A guy my dad worked with used this type of vehicle security - Im told of a time he got out of his car and walked away without locking it (Mk 2 Golf GTi, I dont think remote locking was available on them then)
A good samaritan approched John and said that he hadnt locked the car. The Samaritan was told to look in the rear window - and saw a large Alsatian trying to come through said window - I believe the Samaritan ended up on his arse.
John's response was if someone wants to nick the car and can get past the dog, they can have it.....

I have a cheap alarm slapped up on the wall inside my garage that detects any movement & gives you 10 silent seconds to press the fob to deactivate.

It's quite small & fairly sly so you don't notice it when you open the garage door.

There's been a few mornings where I've completely forgot about it's existence till I've got to ear level with the thing & it's definitely loud!!

It'd easily be enough to wake you up & alert you to the presence of scrotes poking around your pride & joy.

I take security very serious. I have chains & locks on both wheels, the front one is attached to an anchor point. I also have a disc lock and a Kasp Wireless Shed Alarm - http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PI ... er=froogle

You will need advice if you buy the snitcher as the gps location service they use has stopped but I found another one. You will also need to open up the unit to get access to the sim card so you can register it online, so you can top up when needed or replace the sim with one of your choice.

The more stuff you have the harder it is to steal.

I used to keep my bike on the street under the grubbiest green canvas cover you've ever seen - impregnated with tree sap, had mould growing on it and everything. No locks, no chains, and in about 10 years of street parking (George Street and Rosemount) it never got touched! Sometimes camouflage does work I guess... or they just didn't like Kawasaki ZX6Rs.

Mate oh mine down south used to wire up the handles to his garage door to the mains,
coppers came checking one day while he was at work or summit and someone had been reported to be hanging about bet cop got a nasty surprise, ended up mate got a fine and a hell of a ticking off.
For what protecting his own, was told he could be facing jail if that was to happen again.
weird these days whatever you do to deter a thief if they end up getting hurt you are to blame

Like I said the more stuff you have securing the bike the more time you have to catch the scrotes. I have a baseball bat at my back door, so if my wireless alarm & mobile goes off I will be going for a few "home runs"!!

Alarm, immobiliser, chain and house alarm (wired to garage, which is locked).
Also audible disc-lok.

Best not to advertise that there may be something worth having inside.

Same as Rowan, a movement sensor works well, just make sure it's not too easy to reach or they'll just rip it off and smash it to pieces before the thing goes off.

Dogs can easily be poisoned by the determined thief, although unlikely your usual opportunist ned.

Or drugged.
