MotoGP set for influx of new teams in 2012 season

The size of the MotoGP grid could be set to increase substantially for the 2012 season.
Governing body FIM has said 11 teams comprising 16 riders have been invited to take part in the next stage of selection to compete in MotoGP.
Grid sizes have been made up of around 17 bikes for the last four seasons but new regulations have led to plenty of interest, particularly from Moto2.
The existing 10 teams have been guaranteed places for next season.
Now the remaining hopefuls must lodge a security deposit with the International Road Racing Teams Association (IRTA) by the Friday of the next grand prix weekend in Barcelona on 3 June.
At the Catalan Grand Prix, series-rights holders Dorna and IRTA will decide which teams will be offered a participation deal.
