White layer on top of oil

Just checking the bike over today (Suzuki Bandit 650)when I looked at the eye glass for the oil level I noticed that there is a white layer on top of the oil.
1. Is this moisture
2. Do I change the oil
3. Is it ok to leave
4. Will this cause damage to the engine
The engine has been started and heated several times during the winter. Any advise welcome.

most seem to recommend a replacement of oil etc if it doesnt burn off from a run

I'm with Ratz there, had that problem with car and it was faulty cylinder head gasket letting rad water into pots

Typically it's emulsified oil. Doesn't do your engine any good as it's really thick and restricts lubrication and I wouldn't imagine is good for the clutch. Worth draining and flushing through with some cheap oil before replacing with your usual choice. Heating the engine first helps it drain out of the system better but do watch for hot oil burns! Once off it's probably just a bit of condensation or big puddles but if it keeps happening you've probably got a problem to trace as per bry's example.

if you have been starting the bike over winter you may well get some of this appearing .
Give the bike a good run and you will find that it wil most likely go.

Probably just moisture from sitting all winter.
If its the head gasket, you will also see the water in the radiator expansion tank bubling.

Short runs or just starting her up to charge the battery will induce condensation from inside the engine. Far more likely than coolant in your oil.

You need to start her up for longer and give her the odd run to boil off the condensation.

I had this on Friday with the Prilla. Checked coolant level, took it for a good 20min blast and it was gone.
