OK it's not WSB but AMA, I know.
Scott Russell will compete in this year's Daytona 200 on an R1. The 1993 WSB Champ and five times Daytona victor, who has also won the AMA series and the Suzuka 8hr, was seriously injured on the start line in the 2001 Daytona.
If you never saw it - here's the crash.

It was defined as "career ending" but one of the toughest and most flamboyant superbike riders is back for at least one more go.

Re: Scott Russell Returns to Daytona
Plus, when Scott Russell recovered from the accident, and got his insurance payout, he had to sign a waiver, that he would never race again (hense the end of career). So he may be thinking fcuk it, and racing with no insurance.
