I went out with them on Sunday, anybody else done it?

I thought it was pretty good and the weather turned out alright after a damp start.
Was more or less what I was expecting, although they focus mostly on positioning and observation.

Certainly learned a few things and will probably follow it up!

Yea done it last year, I think it's a very good starting point and would recommend it to all novice riders, also good value for very little money.

My Mrs (Lobsterfish) was there on Sunday, she enjoyed it.

She says it was nice that the sun came out.

i did it about 7 years ago.
flippin magic feelin being told by a rozzer that "going above the speed limit in order to carry out a safe overtake is acceptable within reason".

as the guy told me - they'd prefer to teach someone to ride fast and smooth than have to scrape them off the road.

When we went in the group with the cop he told me, ride as fast as you like. I looked at him and before I could say anything he said, well within reason!

Must also say that pulling each others helmets off was most interesting.

Ive got mine booked for August, looking forward to it, but feel I might ride differently whilst being folllowed by them.....

Took part earlier this year. Good guidance from the Police but being followed by a police bike for so long is really disconcerting. Really good following them and watching the lines they take and getting explainations of why they do. Well worth doing for the time and money involved.

is incorrect, the emergency service staff have always been paid to run these courses. As you said when they were first introduced, attendance was free.

New now available. Im doing it if anyone wants to join me, im thinking of April.

Just printed the application and aim for the 8th dude!

Its asks for a 20 cheque.. which i dont have or have ever owned a cheque book.. may need to phone them and see if they take cash (who the deuce uses cheques in this day an age!)

Just off the phone with dibble and was advised they accept cash payments and cheques.. any one doing so to place money in an envelope complete with application form marked for the attention of pissy Neil Robertson and hand into the nelson street station.

prob easier than cheque at least you know it is paid then. That what I think I would do thanks Haiax0

Now booked on for the 8th of april

I attended the course last year, and I was well impressed

It was very informative, some good banter going on from the first minute when a copper not involved with the course entered the lecture room with two sat nav's and a set of keys he took from bikes outside.

The roads they used for the observed runs are great.

My insurance renewal is due soon, so it will be interesting to see what (if any) discount I will get when I phone to say I have a certificate to say I have done bikesafe.

In all, a grand day out

You may not get anything. Bikesafe is not a course. It is an assessment of your riding. The aim is to get folk to take further training. Unfortunately, people go along and this is all the training they take. The police riders are not 'instructors', do not use radios and can only give limited input in the time they have.

You will note 'limit points of observation' (vanishing points to the motorcycling press) are not discussed in the talks. Difficult to learn in classroom environment.

Bikesafe should be seen as a starting point to improving riding, not the finishing point of it.

I saw the title of this thread and assumed it was about a new kind of biro pen!
