A very bad state !!
Had been sitting in a field for 2 years, spent last winter removing all the excess plastics and rubbish, mirrors, indicators, etcc.. but it still needed lots of work; de-linking the brakes, unseizing the clutch, etcc...
Will try to get it passed with a daytime MOT somewhere else... :(
It was in Albamoto since May.... :roll

I was shown a letter last night from a firm of solicitors that said Albamoto Ltd. had formally ceased trading on Friday 25th October with very little assets and large liabilities.

If bust on 25th, would that not mean administrators are already involved?

From another source
Ducati Forum wrote:Been down to AlbaMoto on South College Street in Aberdeen
and there's a very sad tale going on down there indeed.

I phoned this morning to see if they could change a tyre on my bike for me and discovered that they've gone into administration!
The lady I spoke to on the phone said that AlbaMoto had gone into administration but the mechanic was still there and they
could change my tyre for me so I popped down at lunchtime.
It seems that the owner of the business had managed to rack up £00,000's of debts, failed to pay VAT/business rates/all that tax malarkey and even
sold a couple of customers' bikes without passing on the money to the customers and so the crunch came and he basically shut up shop and
has pretty much disappeared.

That's all very well, and tragic in it's own way, but not unusual.
Here's the rub for me "**" & "**" are trying to keep *something* going at the South College Street site as they have put a
lot of personal effort, energy and money into revamping the shop, workshop and everything.
They're looking at losing all their money but to them that's not the most important thing really, although like
everyone they could do without it !
They're currently talking to Shirlaws (and possibly the Honda shop) to see if they would be interested in taking over or somehow supporting them to keep the shop
running, but would really rather maintain an independent motorcycleshop if they possibly can.
They can pay the mechanic until this Friday, and the shop will probably close down completely at that time.
There's all sorts of legal wranglings going on with who owns the company, who's liable for what, good old-fashioned soap-opera stuff
which I'm not qualified to go in to.

There's also a rumour that the ex-owner is making enquiries about starting up another motorcycle shop "out by Aberdeen Tyres" in an empty unit next door to them.
So, provided I haven't been suckered by the performance at AlbaMoto.

Doesn't take much to waiver my trust.. and getting it back is easier said than done, but I felt there was a good relationship with Alba Moto and i was always looked after. It is a great shame these stories (whether accurate or not) shatter my trust somewhat.

before my own conclusion sets lets see what comes out in the wash... :hippy

I cant fault Craigston Tyres, but for us townies it is a touch more logistical to leave your bike there and get home if it requires a longer stay.

I'm the same - bike was serviced at alba and could not fault them. I also had new back tyre fitted at craigston because I fancied a wee trip out. Hopefully they re-open and keep the same service as its always nice to have a choice.

If you contact Craigston he will collect your bike & return it at a time that suits. I have always had a decent service from Neil @ Craigston.

Does nobody service their own bikes anymore ? Pretty poor show if you have to rely on someone else to do everything on your bike for you

Not all jobs booked into a garage are a service. I happily service any bike that is not in it's warranty period - I just think there's a level of expected competency in association with a garage (although I'm sure we all can prove that wrong from time to time)

when I buy a bike I prefer to see it's been looked after by a reputable place if I can't vet the person who says they have self serviced it and has just mocked up some paperwork.

Sorry to hear about the demise of this bike shop.
I found them very good.

In fact one of my colleagues was in just a few weeks ago, on my recommendation and he was waxing lyrical afterwards about the cost effective quality of service that they did on his Moto Guzzi. :2up

Aye well
use it or lose it comes to mind in these situations. :(

Cuptie is correct.
And the rumour is no longer just that. There are plans afoot to open a new independent motorcycle workshop from the former Albamoto site. The guys have some big plans for the place and WILL include: Onsite MOT centre ,
Possible ramp hire to customers (like the service offered by Oval motorcycles London)
A motorcycle club with workshop benefits to members
And possibly a café for customers, social meets and ride outs etc.....

This Has all to be confirmed to be confirmed ofcourse but if true would more than fill the hole left by Albamoto etc and offer a little more to the biking community in and around Aberdeen than merely a place to have their bikes repaired at a realistic cost!!! Here's hoping it happens.

Watch this space guys :2up
